How I Plan my Week Using a Weekly Whiteboard

Something I look forward to every Sunday is creating my whiteboard(s) for the week… yes I have two- what? I LOVE whiteboards! Anyway, in this post I will be showing you a sure fire way to scare away those Sunday-scaries by using my creative planning method.

To plan your week in a creative way, there are some supplies you will need:

  • First and most obviously, you will need a whiteboard

    • You can use a pre-made whiteboard like I do, or you can map out the days of the week using tape on a plain whiteboard-its up to you!

    • I like ones with extra space so that I can doodle; like this one- whiteboard example

  • Second, you will need whiteboard markers

    • ! You most definitely should NOT use normal marker on your whiteboard- it will not come off!!!

    • I recommend getting colorful markers to make your whiteboard pretty!

  • Third, you should have honestly any sort of cleaning spray, I always use a different spray and it works just as well as whiteboard spray to get ride of my last weeks schedule

    • White vinegar diluted with water also works wonders

    • just wipe with a paper towel… no need to buy an eraser

  • Lastly, you will need your schedule! Without your schedule you will have nothing to plan LOL

So, this is pretty straightforward- all you do is write your schedule, right? Wrong: You need to get creative with it!

First Things First-

You should have an example of your schedule written out somewhere so that you can map out your whiteboard. Either in a planner or on your calendar app; just anywhere that you can easily reference it.

This is important so that your weekly whiteboard does not look too cluttered or boring. This way, you can put your daily schedule and events in different places in each section.

(You will see what I mean soon).

Next Up-

Now we get started! I guess you can brainstorm before you jump in, but that’s not really necessary.

First (if there is a spot for it) write in BLACK marker the month and the days that this week ranges from (WEEK OF: January 2-8).

IMPORTANCE OF BLACK MARKER: Everything that has to do with your schedule should be in black marker, this way your eye will be drawn to the important stuff

Next, you should date your sections (MONDAY, 2; TUESDAY, 3; WEDNESDAY, 4… you get it).

Labeling the Days

As you can see at the top, it says “WEEK OF Jan 17-23”. Underneath, you can see my black inked numbers marking each day.

Now it’s Time to Have Fun-

Now is when we start to actually write our schedule! I like to go one section/day at a time. I go one at a time so that I can make every section look good by itself without worrying about the whole picture.

You can choose to either put your schedule for the day at the top (or bottom) of every section, or you can have more fun with it and fit it in wherever. Since it will be in black marker, it will easily stand out.

Sometimes I like to create my doodle for the day before writing my schedule, but sometimes I write the schedule first. It’s all up to my vision for that specific day.

Fitting it In

Here I am showing an example of “fitting it in”. As you can see, I just wrote my schedule for the day in the extra space left after I drew my doodle. I wrote it in black so it will be very easily seen.

When choosing what your daily doodles and sayings should be, you should either hand-letter a synonymous term for one of your big tasks of the day, or any other statement relating to that day. You can really choose to write anything. Sometimes I just draw some doodles if there are no events that day!

Other ideas of statements to hand letter are-

  • “Take (dogs name) on a walk”

  • “(job title)”

  • Main task on to-do list

  • “Busy day”

  • “First/last day of school”

  • “Merry Christmas” (or whatever holiday)

  • “Breakfast for dinner”

    • (or any exciting theme for that day)

Statements and Sayings

Here are some examples of statement ideas and their matching doodles. Feel free to use these as inspiration!

I really enjoy writing these cute statements because they make each day new and exciting!

When you are writing out your daily statements and quotes, make sure to mix and match fonts and colors. This mixing and matching really makes your whiteboard POP!

Mix and Match

Different ways to mix and match

Different Fonts

There are all different types of cursive that you can use. Also, you can make skinny letters in capitals or in lowercase.

Thick and Thin

You can experiment with using different angles of your marker to make thicker or thinner letters!

IDEA: You can keep your whiteboard all one/two colors, or you can use the whole rainbow! And the great part is- you can try a new color combination next week!

Add Some Flare-

We are almost done, all you have to do is add some little doodles! You can add arrows, polka dots, lines, themed doodles, and more.

Creative Touch

Here is an example of SO many little doodles you can personalize and add to your whiteboard.

Color Coordinating

While it is important to mix and match fonts and colors, it is even more important to correspond your mixing and matching with your flares; if the bottom word is green but the top word is blue, underline the blue word in green and the green word in blue! I promise it will tie your whole board together.

And thats it! Congratulations, you have completed a beautifully unique weekly whiteboard planner. Click here if you want to read about how I use my other white board. Thanks for reading, I hope you begin to love whiteboards as much as I do.

Until next time,
